Context
Birthright NEXT: A Division of Birthright Israel Foundation was Birthright's alumni division, doing alumni outreach and engagement to keep them involved in the Jewish community following their Birthright Israel/Taglit experience. They had a tremendous amount of data on which they weren't running analytics.
Birthright NEXT folded in early 2015.
Problem
We have so much data but don't do anything with it.
The potential for analytics was tremendous. Running analytics on NEXT's data had the potential to show the impact of their programs and areas for improvement, in addition to identifying where their efforts overlapped and could be made more efficient.
Our investors really ought to see the impacts of our programs.
It's good to show funders how their investments are performing. But it's not enough to simply tell them numbers and conclusions; presenting them with infographics calls attention to the most important and compelling pieces of information.
Our promotional materials need to be spruced up.
It's hard to engage with alumni when using old promotional styling. We decided that a new aesthetic could help increase engagement as it would represent the new improvements to our programs.
Process
Design
The projects that I was tasked with were all different from one another, and for each one, I was encouraged to create different designs. One of the reasons behind this was to try out as many designs as possible to see what was most effective.
Development
I was given the freedom to build designs however I wanted. I primary used Photoshop, and for one of the infographics I used an online infographic builder called Piktochart.
Final Design
I created the following infographics to be shown to investors:

I created the following infographics to be used for programs and their promotions:

Biggest Takeaways
- It's okay for one design to have many iterations
- An infographic must leverage its design to call out the most important information
- A complex infographic is not necessarily more effective than a simple one; sometimes simple is better
